Stacking the Shelves

Stacking the Shelves time! I know I keep saying each week is going to be more conservative, etc, etc, and I guess I’m not doing too badly on that. I only bought three books…

Cover of My Soul To Keep by Tananarive Due Cover of The Servants, by Michael Marshall Smith Cover of Maplecroft by Cherie Priest

Yessss finally got Maplecroft. And then a book linked to one of my Coursera courses arrived too — I pre-ordered it somewhere back in August…

Cover of A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Harari

…Which should be very interesting. And then I happened to drop by the charity shop to see if they’re looking for anything in particular to sell at the moment. They’re not, but they were looking to unload some of their books that people weren’t buying…

Cover of A Game of Thrones by G.R.R. Martin Cover of The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan Cover of House of Suns

Cover of Virolution by Frank Ryan Cover of Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgwick

Yep, those first three are ones people have been nagging me to read for ages. Technically I already had The Eye of the World in my Hugo Voters’ Packet, but this was free, so, eh.

And finally, of course, I got some review copies.

Cover of Rewire Your Anxious Brain Cover of Shadow Memories by Nicholas Erik Cover of The Crochet Answer Book

Cover of Ancestors in Our Genome Cover of Willful Child by Steven Erikson

Non-fiction, mostly! Or it was until I got approved for Willful Child. I’m gonna probably flick through Rewire Your Anxious Brain and review it briefly: I want to know if it’s something genuinely useful or something fluffy and unscientific. I’m guessing it will be pretty scientific given the authors’ qualifications, but you can have a PhD in a lot of things, so it’s not sure and certain.

What’s everyone else been getting? And here’s a goal for next week: no more than three books in my post. That might get spoilt if people suddenly decide to grant old Netgalley requests, but we’ll see!

  1. *giggles* Yep I use excuses like that ‘but I only bought three, the rest were free!’ It sounds pretty good and I’m happy to kid myself! It doesn’t help the darn tbr pile though! Enjoy your books…

  2. Game of Thrones is such an awesome series. And I really liked The Wheel of Time (although that series is very long. I’m not sure I’ll ever manage to finish it. 🙂 ) Marcus Sedgwick’s books are great too. I haven’t read Midwinterblood yet though, but that’s a great cover. I hope you enjoy your books.

    • I’ve been meaning to read both for yeaaaars, but maybe this will kick me into gear. And I’m enjoying Midwinterblood so far. It’s strange, but that’s not surprising from Sedgwick! Have you read A Love Like Blood yet?

  3. Oh! You’ve got a Game of Thrones. I look forward to your thoughts about the book. Read it last year and I must say that I wasn’t impressed by it. But will still be reading the sequels though because I happen to love the TV adaptation. 😀

And huhuh, I got rejected for the Willful Child. I’ve been looking forward to reading the book because the premise really sounds good plus the MC was cocky. 😀

Anyway, have fun reading all of your books!

    • I’m enjoying it so far, but I’m not far in, really.

Yeah, I mostly got it because it’s Steven Erikson — I was a little surprised to be approved for it, honestly! But whoo.

      Thanks.

  4. Wooo hooo on Soul to Keep. I’m suffering from a slight Tananarive Due obsession at the moment. Just burned through the first two in that series and am a couple of chapters into Blood Colony.

  5. I do like the cover for the anxiety book. 😉 Although I read like zero non-fiction but I hope it’s a good read for you! I also want to try Game of Thrones! But I think I might actually be a bad bookworm and try the tv series first, so I have a faint grip of the world and stuff before hand.
    Thanks for stopping by mine!

    • It does look quite good. I’m mostly planning to skim it, to see if I’d recommend it to other anxious people — thank goodness, my anxiety is a lot better. I’m enjoying A Game of Thrones so far!

  7. I have Maplecroft as well, and I’m so excited to read it. I’ve read some mixed reviews, but I can’t wait to see what I think of it. Awesome books! Thanks for stopping by!

    • My sister’s been at me to read House of Suns for aaaages. Biiig Alastair Reynolds fan, which is funny ’cause it was his books I gave her to get her back into reading a few years back, heh.

      We’ll see, I guess!

      Thanks for commenting back!
